In China, CNY is a time for the whole extended family to get together to eat, drink, smoke cigarettes, and light off fireworks. All of these are done in excess. I was lucky enough to be invited to the big family dinner by one of our Chinese colleagues. When it comes to the 团会 “tuan hui”, literally “team event”, the Shanghainese don’t mess around.
